Welcome to this website featuring our AHRC-funded Robert Burns scholarly-editing project, the volumes for which are being published by Oxford University Press. These include Burns’s Correspondence in three volumes (for the first time letters to and from the poet brought together) and his Poetry in two volumes (including songs, often treated as poetry-texts, alongside poems).
During the editing of the aforementioned scholarly editions, OUP will also produce The Oxford Handbook of Robert Burns, over 40 essays and the biggest critical compendium of Burns ever produced which often draws on our editorial labours.
Other important outputs which will be featured on this website, include blogs, four documentaries: ‘Fakers & Forgers’, ‘Editing Burns’s Correspondence’, ‘Editing Burns’s Songs’ and ‘Editing Burns’ Poetry’. Additional resources will eventually include an interactive map of Burns’s correspondents and lists of Burns’s many manuscripts (extending to a list of forged ‘Burns’ material as well).
This website, then, features both original outputs in themselves and ‘support’ material to the OUP Collected Works of Robert Burns (four of which have appeared already: Commonplace Books, Tour Journals and Miscellaneous Prose, The Scots musical Museum [2 vols] and Songs for George Thomson).
This second website relating to the umbrella project, ‘Editing Robert Burns for the 21st Century’ under the aegis of the Centre for Robert Burns Studies at the University of Glasgow, will accompany the OUP Burns edition through to its completion in coming years.
